Assignment #10: Political Poster Analysis


Image A: Don't Let USA Rule M' sia [Malaysia] 2006

Purpose 
• What is the message that this document communicates? What is the
document’s purpose? 
The message of the document is to not let USA take over and rule M'sia. The purpose of it is to Stop the USA free trade agreement.
• Why is it important for this message to be delivered to this audience at
this moment in time? It is important so the people would take action on not letting USA continue with the FTA.
• How does the document communicate its message? Think about its
use of language, color, space, and symbols. The document communicates the message by showing the hand on how the it uses the people as a puppet for their own use.
Audience 
• Who is the audience for this document? The audience of the document is everybody interested on their society and political views.
• What does the message suggest about the audience’s beliefs and
values? It suggest people stop to take action.
• How accurate are these beliefs about the audience? It is very accurate according to the image it is trying to portray.

Document Author 
• Who wrote the message? Someone interested on stoping the US free trade agreement.
• What are the writer’s motives for creating this message? How might
the writer personally benefit from the audience’s acceptance of this
message? By showing us the audience as a puppet and US controlling us.

Evidence, Support, and Outcomes 
• What facts and specific details does the document use? Are the facts
verifiable and believable? The facts they use are the FTA agreement, it is believable as they write it out.
• What emotions does the document use to communicate its message? How is the audience likely to feel when they read this message? The different kind of people being used as puppets and they are likely to feel used.
• What ethical or moral values does the document use to communicate
its message? What relevant values are not supported by this message? The USA flag being used as the shirt on the hand as it represents the US being the hand who controls the puppets.
• What will happen if the audience accepts this message? They will take action on going against the US free trade agreement.
• What would happen if everyone in the world accepted this message? The US would have to come in to an agreement on stopping the free trade agreement.

Overall Impression and Conclusions 
• What is the overall impression of this message? Summarize the details
that you have gathered in your analysis. The overall message is to come to something to end the FTA.
• How would you categorize this poster—argument, persuasion, or
propaganda? Explain your choice. I would categorize it as a persuasion to end the FTA.

Image B: Stand Together Easter 1983

Purpose 
• What is the message that this document communicates? What is the
document’s purpose?
The message is to end the nuclear bombs peacefully.
• Why is it important for this message to be delivered to this audience at
this moment in time? It is important to because the nuclear bombs are killing many innocent people.
• How does the document communicate its message? Think about its
use of language, color, space, and symbols. It communicates the message by having a peace sign and having many people holding hands standing together.
Audience 
• Who is the audience for this document? The audience is for anybody that is trying to end the nuclear bomb witch is harming many families.
• What does the message suggest about the audience’s beliefs and
values? It suggest that people stand together so they can end this all together.
• How accurate are these beliefs about the audience? It is very accurate as it shows many people holding hands together.

• Who wrote the message? Somebody who probably lost a family member or close friend in a nuclear bomb attack.
• What are the writer’s motives for creating this message? How might
the writer personally benefit from the audience’s acceptance of this
message? By trying to gather many people to accomplish the CND.

verifiable and believable? It uses many people of all different kind of sizes.
• What emotions does the document use to communicate its message? How is the audience likely to feel when they read this message? The emotion of the people gathering to make a campaign.
• What ethical or moral values does the document use to communicate its message? What relevant values are not supported by this message? It communicates that together it can be stopped to the better.
• What will happen if the audience accepts this message? The nuclear bombing will stop for good.
• What would happen if everyone in the world accepted this message? They would form an organization to stop this nuclear bombing going on.

that you have gathered in your analysis. The overall immersion is gathering people to accomplish the goal of the nuclear disarmament campaign.

propaganda? Explain your choice. I would categorize it as propaganda as it tries to sell out so more people join the nuclear disarmament campaign.
